Inpatients: Transferring patients to a different ward – DO NOT discharge within Sunrise – YOU MUST USE Allscripts PAS

When transferring a patient from your ward to a different ward within the Trust you MUST NOT click ‘discharge’ within Sunrise EPR. Although it does not discharge them from PAS, it discharges the patient from the EPR system making it difficult for the staff on the ward to which they have been transferred to order tests and follow up treatment.

Take a look at this video for more help - IP 03 - How to Transfer a Patient from one ward to another (Clinical Workstation) - YouTube.

The administration of all transfers must be undertaken using Allscripts PAS. Please see this quick reference help guide: https://servicedesk.mtw.nhs.uk/support/solutions/articles/50000016115

ED staff – discharging patients or admitting to wards

When a patient is allowed to go home from the Emergency Department, ED staff click on discharge within Sunrise.

If they are being admitted to a ward you MUST NOT click discharge. Administration of moving a patient from ED to a Trust ward will be undertaken as an Admission under PAS. See https://servicedesk.mtw.nhs.uk/support/solutions/articles/50000091710-sunrise-qrg-admission-from-ed-to-ward-on-pas

Admitting patients via PAS

Admitting a patient to a ward from Allscripts PAS, Ward Manager (Clinical workstation side) is no longer available. You should now use the ‘admit’ button on the patient details screen in PAS.

To see how a patient should be admitted using Allscripts PAS see the quick video here.

Sunrise EPR and Allscripts PAS continue to work alongside each other

Allscripts PAS must continue to be used alongside Sunrise EPR to ensure continuity of patient care. Both systems will continue to be in use working together for a seamless patient experience. Please ensure you use both systems in the correct way.

  • Allscripts PAS is used for patient administration and for demographic data.
  • Sunrise is used to record all clinical data, to order tests and imaging (pathology and radiology), and to make referrals.
    1. The next phase of development for Sunrise will be electronic prescriptions and medicine administration (EPMA).

PAS will remain in use across the Trust. It must be used alongside Sunrise EPR
