1. Introduction

This is a guide to show the introduction to Windows 10. In here, you will find useful steps on how to:

  • Log into a Windows 10 PC
  • Search for relevant apps that may not be on the desktop
  • How to get to your shared drives via My Computer (This PC)
  • How to setup Outlook on your new PC
  1. Initial log in process
    1. Logging into Windows 10

Once the PC has been powered on, you should see the following screen. You can either click the mouse or press the spacebar to get past this.

On the next screen, you may find that someone else has been logged into this PC previously. In order for you to login, press the other user option in the bottom left hand corner.

Login with your normal MTW Windows Username and then your ESR number as the password.

The PC should then show a screen with your username and preparing windows. Once this has finished you should see your desktop as below! You have now successfully logged into your new PC.

    1. Searching for Apps via the search bar

Now that you are logged in and met with the Desktop with MTW Background, you should notice a search bar in the bottom left hand corner of the screen. If you find that, you cannot see a particular app on the desktop you will be able to search for it in this box.

For example, I may need to use word to write a document but it cannot be seen on the desktop. To find this, click into the search box and type word. You can now see this appear as an option. You can either click on the Word button or ‘Open’ on the right hand side.

As you can see, word is now open!

  1. How to get to your shared drives (My Computer)

As you can see, Windows 10 looks very different to 7. To access the shared drives, click the folder icon along the taskbar at the bottom.

Now you have opened this, you should see this screen in front of you:

As you can see, along the left hand side there are some options, please click the one that says this PC, with the computer icon next to it.


Great! On the screen now, you should see various folders. Towards the bottom should be your relevant shared drives. These could be S, Q, and H etc. These will be accessible and have the same data as your old PC.

 

  1. Setting up Outlook

In this next step, we will be taking you through the Outlook setup process. You may find that Outlook is not on the desktop, so please click the start button, you should then see Outlook along the right hand side. Once you have opened Outlook, you should see the following screen.

 

 

Please ensure that the box is showing your correct NHS email, then click connect. The next screen you will see is an email sign in box. The box may show a different username, in the following prefix [email protected] please remove this and type in your NHS email, as below

 

 

 

 

Once you have typed this in, click next. You should then see the NHS Mail sign in screen, please type in your NHS email password and click sign in.

 

 

 

When you see the next screen, please just click OK.

 

You have now successfully setup Outlook! This will now configure and you should see your emails start to appear!

 

 

  1. Logging out of the computer

In this step, we are going to show to you how to successfully log out of the new Windows 10 computer. The first step would be to make sure you have closed all apps and software you had open. Then navigate to the start button in the bottom left hand corner.

 

Click this, when it opens the start menu, you should see an option that looks like a head and torso. As seen below!

 

Select this option. You will then see the list of options you have to sign out of the Computer. Select sign out and you will then go back to the initial screen you saw in this guide.
