This guide is for all users to provide an overview of the Screen and Patient Record in Sunrise to assist with the familiarisation and navigation of the system
Note: The view of the Sunrise screen and functionality of the system may differ depending on user rights. Access to patients’ clinical data is auditable and may be restricted by role
Step by step overview for read only Sunrise
This document is to outline the standard operating procedure for read only access using the Sunrise EPR system.

The Sunrise help functionality will open in a separate window. This is context sensitive and will provide information about what is showing on the Sunrise screen at the time
You can also search the contents or index if required

The Help icon, a Help button or a text link also appears within pop-up windows so you can access help on those topics

There will also be a link to the Quick Reference Guides (QRGs) stored on the IT Service Desk Portal.
Click on the dropdown menu at the top of the Sunrise screen and select the link

Navigating Sunrise

The top left of the screen displays the dropdown menus available in Sunrise. Note: The ‘Tools’ menu contains links to useful resources

Check the blue ‘Patient Banner’ across the top of the screen to ensure the correct patient is displayed. Information will be shown in the banner, such as address, telephone number, age, gender, location and NHS Number.

‘Alerts’ added in PAS will be identified by a yellow warning triangle on the right of the ‘Patient Banner’. Hover over the Alert triangle to view details of the Alert
|

‘Allergies’ will be identified by a red warning sign, also on the far right of the ‘Patient Banner’
|

Click the chevrons on the right-hand side of the ‘Patient Banner’ to expand the banner to view further details of the patient’s ‘Allergies’, ‘Infection Control’, ‘Weight and Height’ and additional demographic data. To close the expanded banner, click the chevrons again
Note: Click on the ‘More Header Info’ icon on the main toolbar for additional information re Admission Date, Expected Discharge Date, Weight and Height, Care Providers and Allergies and Intolerances.

The main toolbar icons can be seen below the blue patient banner. The icons displayed will be dependent on user rights/job role.
If the icon names are not displayed, simply hover over the icons to see what they do.

The tabs containing the patient record are shown below the toolbar once the patient is selected in context and visible on the blue bar.

The tab icons can be seen underneath the patient tabs.

The ‘Visit View’ icon on the main toolbar can be used to display the patient’s visit or attendance (e.g. ED, Outpatient and Inpatient). With the patient in context in the blue patient banner click on the icon to open
‘Visit View’ will open in a separate window. The ‘Selection Criteria’ can be filtered using the dropdown ‘Select View’ function and by choosing the appropriate timeframe from the centre tabs, for instance inputting a specific ‘Date Range’.
Patient information will be shown in the centre panel and the scroll arrows on the right-hand side can be used to move up and down the page. The categories shown on the left (e.g. Orders or Documents) can be selected individually and the chosen patient record will appear in the centre
Tip: Other areas of Sunrise can also be accessed with the ‘Visit View’ open
Note: The size and position of the ‘Visit View’ window can be changed to suit your needs by dragging the blue bar at the top of the window to your chosen position. This will then be saved when you log off. To ‘close’ the window, press the ‘x’ icon on the far right

The ‘Tracking Board’ tab displays patients from the selected Department and View (use the dropdown arrows to change)

The ‘Patient List’ tab allows users to create, modify and view patient lists

The ‘Orders’ tab allows you to view orders or requests for pathology, radiology medications and referrals

The ‘Patient Info’ tab allows you to view information from the list below (depending on access rights) by clicking on the relevant link to the left of the screen.
Important Note: the demographic/address/phone/contact data is for information only and cannot be updated in Sunrise. Allscripts PAS must be used to update these patient details

For more information on an entry, select the row and click the ‘Details’ link on the bottom right hand side of the screen. Other links may be available, depending on the type of entry selected

The ‘Results’ tab allows you to view Pathology results and reports. There are different views and filter selections to optimise the display to your requirements

The ‘Documents’ tab displays all documents that have been created in Sunrise. Documents are displayed based on filter selections in the ‘Options Panel’

The ‘Flowsheets’ tab contains a range of clinical entries for the patient, entered during inpatient or ED attendances. The filters in the ‘Options Panel’ will determine what is displayed.

The ‘PACS’ tab allows you to view Radiology images and reports for the selected patient using the PACS viewer. The toolbar within the tab contains the usual PACS controls, subject to user rights.
Tip: The ‘Pop Out’ button will display PACS in full screen
Note: PACS will still be available to use from the desktop as usual. See separate Quick Reference Guide (QRG) ‘Results Tab’ for further information

The ‘eNotes’ tab can be used to access the patient’s record on eNotes. The folders shown below indicate the types of notes available to view, including correspondence, charts and investigation results.
Tip: As before, the ‘Pop Out’ button will display eNotes in full screen

The ‘KMCR’ tab allows you to view the Kent and Medway Care Record depending on user rights or job role. The screenshots below show examples of the type of patient information available on the KMCR
