This guide is for ED clinicians to refer a patient for a Speciality opinion in Sunrise. It also explains the process for Speciality doctors and the ED Flow Co-ordinators

Step

Tips/notes

1

With the patient in context, click on ‘ED Clinical Documentation’ from the ‘Quick Launch Docs’ button (click on the arrow to the side) at the bottom of the screen

2

With the ED Clinical Documentation displayed, when a speciality opinion is requested, select the Speciality from the ‘Referred To’ dropdown box at the very bottom of the document

3

Insert the time and date of the Speciality Referral by clicking on the ‘clock’ icons

3

Click on the ‘Save’ button at the bottom of the screen.

4

This will be displayed on the ED Tracking Board

5

On the ED Tracking Board, change the Status to ‘Referred to Speciality’ from the dropdown box

SNAGHTML131af02c

6

The process:

  • The Speciality team will report to the Flow Co-Ordinator on arrival in the ED
  • The Speciality team will have read only access to view ED documents
  • The Flow Co-ordinator prints out relevant documentation (SBAR)
  • The Speciality doctor sees the patient. They will not update Sunrise but continue to use their own paper inpatient documentation*
  • The ED printouts are returned to the Flow Co-ordinator and disposed of, as they would no longer be current.

7

*Once the wards go live with Sunrise clinical documentation, the Speciality doctors will complete their Clinical Clerking document on Sunrise instead of on paper

8

The Comments column in the ED Tracking Board can be updated by any staff in the department, just click and type. The box isn’t very big but the comment can be viewed by hovering over it
