This guide is for modifying orders that have been requested using either Discontinue/Cancel or Discontinue/Reorder on Sunrise

Step

Tips/Notes

1

To start, click on the patient you wish to look at for the Orders that have been requested

2

With the patient selected and displayed in the Patient Banner, select the ‘Orders’ tab

3

Displayed on the ‘Orders’ tab is the status of each type of order

4

Below is the table of the various statuses for Radiology and Pathology

5

There are two options when cancelling a test:

  • ‘Discontinue/Cancel’ will cancel the selected test
  • ‘Discontinue/Reorder’ will cancel the selected test and prompt you to order another one

Please note - in addition to the methods shown, these are also both available as right click menu options.

6

From the Orders Summary, click on the ‘Discontinue/Cancel’ icon from the Orders tab toolbar

7

The Discontinue/Cancel screen appears. From the list you can select either a single test, multiple tests or an order set.

8

Single Test

Complete the following fields - Enter the ‘Requested By’ details, the cancellation ‘date’ and the cancellation ‘reason’, selecting ‘Now’, then click ‘OK’

9

The order will now be cancelled on the Orders Summary

10

Now from the Orders Summary, click on the ‘Discontinue/Reorder’ Icon from the Orders tab toolbar

11

The Discontinue/Reorder screen appears, from the list you can select either a single test, multiple tests or an order set test.

12

Order Set

The ‘View Linked Orders’ button will be activated if you are choosing a test from an Order Set, it will show any other tests that were ordered at the same time as the selected one

13

Complete the following fields - Enter the ‘Requested By’ details, the cancellation ‘date’ and the cancellation ‘reason’, selecting ‘Now’, then click ‘OK’

14

Note - the Processing Orders screen will auto-populate with the same details as the original order, if the screen appears, you may need to insert additional information.  Select one item and use the ‘Edit’ button to add information into the remaining fields on the order form.

Click ‘OK’ when it has been completed and this will then drop off the list

15

Repeat Step 14 until all orders have been processed

16

The test is then added to the bottom of the ‘Order Entry Worksheet’

17

Click the ‘Submit Orders’ button at the bottom of the screen

18

However, if you are part way through the cancel reorder process and decide that you no longer wish to reorder the cancelled tests, you can click on the ‘Cancel’ button at the bottom of the screen on the Order Entry Worksheet and you will get a pop up warning message:

This will mean the original test is still cancelled but the replacement is not reordered.

19

Note – If you have accidently clicked on the wrong Discontinue Icon from the Orders toolbar, therefore the wrong screen appears, you can just switch the screens over by clicking on the correct Discontinue function at the top

20

Note –

Cancelling a Radiology imaging request in Sunrise will print a cancellation form in the Radiology Department.

Cancelling a Pathology order will remove the patient from any Patient lists for Phlebotomy.  As the message isn’t sent to Telepath until the specimen is collected, there is no need to inform the lab of the cancellation.

Cancelling a Referral Request will remove the patient from the Patient List, if the receiving team is working electronically.  If they receive the request via a paper printout into their department, you would need to follow the normal process to cancel the request.

21

Within the Tracking Boards, the ‘Lab’ icon badges will change to reflect the status whereas the ‘Rad’ icon badge will not update as the request is processed, performed and reported.

When using Patient List, there are New Order and New Results columns, which will show different icons to those in the Tracking Boards
