This guide is for all inpatient adult nursing staff. It provides an overview on how to use the Adult Nursing and Care flowsheet within Sunrise.

Tips/notes

Note

Please refer to ‘Flowsheets – Key Points’ quick reference guide and/or video for more information on managing flowsheet documentation within sunrise.

1

From the Ward Tracking Board, select the patient you require and confirm selected patient’s details in the Patient Banner.

2

Select the ‘Flowsheets’ tab

3

With the ‘Flowsheets’ tab open, select ‘FS Adult Nursing and Care’ from the ‘Flowsheet Selection’ area at the bottom left-hand side of the screen in the Options Panel.

4

Ensure the chart selection and date range is correct.

5

The Flowsheet will be displayed in the main screen. It contains many data collection and assessment parameters, or sections. Select the ‘+’ symbol to open any of the parameters and the ‘-‘ symbol to close the opened parameter.

6

To record new information, select ‘Add Time Column Options’ button on the tab toolbar.

7

From the menu displayed, select ‘Add Single Time Column’.

8

The Add Single Time Column pop-up will appear.

Note - that the Start Date and Time will default to the current time but can be amended if required.

Click ‘OK’.

9

The added time column will be displayed. You can now record the data required for any item displayed in the added time column by clicking into the cell on the required line.

10

Note - the padlock icon on the column heading, indicates you are currently entering data into that column and it will be locked to other users until the flowsheet is saved.

This means no-one can see the data you have just entered until it has been saved.

11

Note - you do not need to fill in every cell, in every parameter, in every column, it depends what information needs to be recorded.

12

Once the required parameters on the flowsheet have been completed, select the ‘Save’ button, at the top right-hand corner of the flowsheet.

13

Important Note – if you choose not to save the data at this point and navigate away from the flowsheets tab within the same patient’s record to insert other details, the data entered will still be kept waiting to be saved.

However, if you move away from this screen to bring up another patient’s record, a prompt will appear that entries will be lost unless you return and save.

If you select delete on the prompt, the data just entered will be discarded. So the correct option should be ‘Return’ and then ‘Save’.

14

Note – If the Flowsheet needs to be Counter signed, which is the last parameter on the Flowsheet, please see separate Quick Reference Guide on ‘Counter Signing Documents and Flowsheets’.
