When using PAS to admit a patient to a ward from ED, it is important to link the attendances so the patient’s record in Sunrise is updated correctly. It also enables documents, flowsheets, orders and results that have been started in ED to be continued on the ward.

Tips/Notes

Prior to admission to a ward, the ED staff will print the SBAR (a summary of their clinical documents) for the ward.

1

Within PAS - From the Patient Administration System screen, click on ‘Home’, search for and select the patient required. From the Patient Details screen, check the details in the patient banner

2

Click ‘Admit Patient’

3

The following message appears if the patient is currently in ED. You must click ‘Yes’. This is an important step. This enables the documents, flowsheets, orders and results from ED to be continued on the ward

4

Continue to add details required for the patient admission and click ‘Next Screen’

5

Complete all relevant details and click ‘Next Screen’

Select the ward and assign a bed. It is mandatory that you MUST assign a bed to the patient, if not known then please select a boarding location.

Click ‘Admit’

7

Print labels as required

8

Answer all questions as appropriate

All Clinical Documentation created on Sunrise for the patient is under the ‘Documents’ tab. The Inpatient Clinical Clerking document may have already been started in the ED and can be continued on the ward.

Orders and results will carry forward to the Inpatient attendance. This will happen straight away.

12

The Clinical Observations flowsheet, containing the NEWS2, will also carry forward from ED. These can be continued on the ward.

13

The patient will automatically be removed from the ED tracking board and will stay on the Inactive Patients view for a set period of time before dropping off
